Date:
Monday, November 2   8:00 PM-10:00 PM

Description:
Giuseppe Lupis joined the faculty at Grand Valley State University as assistant professor of piano, in Fall 2009. His interests range from Baroque to contemporary styles, and from jazz to his own arrangements of popular music. He has given performances at the Temple Square Concert Series, Salt Lake City, for the American Liszt Society Festival, the Peabody Award Banquet at the Governor's Mansion in Atlanta, and the ACDA convention in Charleston, West Virginia, among others venues.

As a soloist he has appeared with the Lviv, Latvian, and Bari Symphonies, the UGA Symphony and the Ascoli Chamber Orchestra. His compact disc of Gershwin solo works (Phoenix label, 2000) was declared "exceptional" by musicologist Alberto Cantu in "Il Giornale" (Milan, Italy).

A former pupil of renowned concert pianist Aldo Ciccolini, Lupis holds a Doctorate in Musical Arts in piano performance at the University of Georgia, under the tutelage of Richard Zimdars. He is a recipient of the 2005 Franz Liszt Award.

For his research on Keith Emerson's music, currently referenced in Wikipedia and other websites, Lupis received a 2007 Excellence in Research Award from the University of Georgia.
